The Dutch singer, who over the past four decades has continually pushed both his personal limits and many national boundaries, has by now accumulated so many milestones that a complete listing would almost make a careful reader dizzy. During a light-hearted introduction in the United States back in 1987, the difficulty of sketching a compact yet clear portrait of him was cleverly resolved by stating: Lee Towers is to his fellow countrymen what Broadway is to entertainment-loving America! An exaggerated comparison? Certainly not, because Lee Towers is truly a phenomenon, a personality who, especially in the turbulent 1980s, was without equal. At that stage of his career, the enterprising singer and showmaster almost single-handedly prepared the Netherlands for his own “Delta Plan” in the field of high-profile entertainment. Without a doubt, Lee Towers was the one (and all his colleagues would readily agree) who pioneered this field. From the very beginning, going against prevailing trends, principles, and well-meaning advice, he did exactly what he believed in: putting on spectacular shows that truly deserved the label of international class. He toured theatres across the Netherlands and Belgium with a full orchestra, opened the Rotterdam Marathon for 25 consecutive years, and has tirelessly supported numerous charities. Under the Mediterranean sun, the first bottle will be ceremonially presented, marking a symbolic moment where past, present, and future come together.
